How Does IPL Work?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy offers a breakthrough, non-invasive approach to treating dry eye disease—and many patients call the experience “life changing.” While traditional treatments like warm compresses, artificial tears, and prescription medications can provide temporary relief, they often require daily maintenance and aren’t always covered by insurance—leading to out-of-pocket stress. IPL addresses the root cause of dry eyes through scheduled in-office treatments, freeing patients from the need for constant drops or medications. Most begin to notice a real difference after just a few sessions.
Beyond relief from symptoms like redness, burning, and irritation, IPL offers aesthetic perks too—such as reducing sun damage and age spots. It’s also a proven therapy for conditions like Rosacea. At our clinic, we use the IPL system from InMode: the most advanced, FDA-approved technology available for dry eye management.
IPL for Other Conditions
In addition to treating dry eyes and blepharitis, talk to your ophthalmologist or optometrist if you have any of the following conditions:
-
Bags under eyelids
-
Redness from rosacea
-
Brown spots (liver or age spots)
-
Freckles
-
Spider veins

What to Expect
Your personalized IPL treatment plan typically includes four sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart, with each visit lasting around 30 minutes. Patients often describe the experience as soothing and “spa-like,” and many begin noticing improvements after just two or three sessions.
During each session, a transparent gel is gently applied to the eyelids and surrounding facial area. Protective eye shields are placed over the eyes, ensuring comfort and safety. As the light therapy begins, you may feel a calming warmth across your skin. The procedure is non-invasive and pain-free.
To enhance results, a gentle Meibomian gland expression follows the treatment. Afterward, you’re free to resume daily activities right away—just avoid direct sunlight for a few days and use sunscreen as advised.
For lasting benefits, periodic maintenance treatments may be recommended every 6 to 12 months.
